La’eeb is an Arabic word meaning super-skilled player. He belongs to a parallel mascot-verse that is indescribable – everyone is invited to interpret what it looks like. La’eeb encourages everyone to believe in themselves as ‘Now is All’. He will bring the joy of football to everyone.

 FIFA World Cup will take place in Qatar from 21 November to 18 December 2022. This is second time that FIFA World Cup is happening in Asia after South Korea and Japan together hosted the World Cup in 2002. There will be 36 teams participating in 2022.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted by the United States Canada and Mexico with 10 Matches each. From 2026, 48 teams will be selected for participating in the World Cup.

Controversies relating to FIFA World Cup 2022

Qatar is one of the richest countries in the world, but its economy depends on the two million migrant workers who live there.

Amnesty International

Amnesty International, human rights organization, had reported on November 16, 2021 that many migrant workers in Qatar remains harsh, despite legal changes introduced since 2017. FIFA discussed workers situation in Qatar with Amnesty International on 13 March 2022.

Legal system in Qatar is based on Sharia Law.

Sharia law, imposes death penalty for homosexuality or (LGBT) community. Homosexuality is illegal in Qatar, with a punishment of up to three years in prison with a fine. Qatar also runs Sharia courts, where the punishment for Muslim men engaging in same-sex activity could be the death penalty.

Drinking alcohol in public in Qatar is a legal offence, but during FIFA World Cup, drinking is permitted.

Russia Ukraine War and the FIFA World Cup

International Olympic Committee (IOC), FIFA and UEFA suspended the participation of Russia, due to Russian Ukraine War the host of FIFA World Cup in 2018.

Many countries such as Albania, England, Scotland, Wales, and Russia’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying play-off opponents Poland, Sweden and Czech Republic, refused to play with Russia

FIFA/UEFA announced that it suspended Russian clubs and national teams from all competitions and Football is fully united here and in full solidarity with all the people affected in Ukraine.

Russia national football team presented the Russia in men’s international football until Russia’s suspension.Prior to the Russian Ukraine War , Russia was drawn to Group H for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, competing with Croatia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Cyprus, and Malta. After finishing second to Croatia, Russia advanced to the play-offs. In world rankings, Russia stands 36th.

India and the Football
