Since 1995, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) observes 23 April as World Book Day. The day is also marked as World Book and Copyright Day or International Day of the Book.

The theme for World Book Day 2022 is ‘Read…So you never feel alone.’ The objective of observing World Book Day is to promote reading habit among children and all people for pleasure and to honor great writers of the world.

Reading improves communication skills and is the best way to develop language skills.

April 23 is remembered as the death anniversary of two great writers in history, in the year 1616, William Shakespeare and in 1858 William Wordsworth.

All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages

(from As You Like It, spoken by Jaques)
