At least 1000 people have been killed and over 600 others injured in Afghanistan after earthquake that hit Naki, Zirok, Barmal and Gayan districts of Paktika province at 01.30 a.m. on 21 June 2022

The quake that struck about 44 km. from the south-eastern city of Khost at about midnight 01:30 a.m. local time has killed at least 1000 people and injured nearly 600. The death toll is expected to rise.

Afghanistan is a landlocked nation (does not have access to the sea) in south-central Asia. Afghanistan is bounded by six different countries namely Iran, Turmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, China and Pakistan.
Afghanistan is prone to quakes, as it’s located in a tectonically active region. The earthquake was of magnitude 6.1 at a depth of about 51km
